Bhringraj (Eclipta alba) grows in wet ground across Maharashtra, and it has been in hair preparations for as long as those preparations have been written down. That longevity earns it attention, but not blind faith.
What the plant does
The leaf is rich in wedelolactone. In practice, an oil infused with fresh bhringraj calms an itchy scalp within a fortnight and reduces the strands you find on the pillow. It works on the scalp, not the strand, which is why massage matters more than quantity.
What it will not do
It will not reverse pattern baldness. It will not regrow hair from a follicle that has closed. Anyone promising that is selling something else.
How we use it
We cold-infuse fresh leaf in sesame oil for twenty-one days rather than boiling it, because heat destroys the very compounds we want. It costs us three weeks per batch. It is the difference between an oil that smells like herbs and one that behaves like them.
